Ask your pension provider to hold banks to their climate promises

Major banks promised to take action on climate. Now, some are stepping back from those commitments.

This includes major European banks HSBC and NatWest which have torn up aspects of their fossil fuel policies and climate targets.

That matters to you, because your pension may already be invested in these banks. Where banks choose to put their money affects people, the planet, and the long-term value of your savings.

Your pension can help make a difference.

Banks listen to the people who give them money, and that includes pension funds.

You can ask your pension fund to vote against re-electing directors at any banks they are invested in if the bank backtracks on its climate commitments. This is a concrete, realistic way to influence the decisions your pension fund makes as a shareholder.

Use the tool to the right to ask your pension provider:

  • How they plan to use their influence to push banks to stick to their climate commitments

  • Whether they will hold banks who weaken their climate promises accountable by voting against directors

  • How they are protecting savers' long-term financial interests from climate-related risks

It only takes a few minutes, and pension providers take member questions seriously. Asking about your pension is a reasonable, effective way to protect both your retirement and the kind of world you’ll retire into.

I don’t know who my pension provider is:
